T.I. Facing Copyright Infringement Suit
Rapper T.I. is being sued for copyright infringement by another rapper. Nathan Filby, known as Motoe Blizzid, claims that the 2006 Grammy-winning song What You Know used substantial portions of his 2004 trackReverence.According to the documents obtained by RadarOnline.com, Filby distributed Reverence to music industry insiders including an agent at Relentless Management who works with the hip-hop star - real name Clifford Harris Jr.
Filby insists that the similarities between his song and T.I.s track are undeniable. He cites the songs same rate of harmonic range and their virtually identical core harmonic progression of descending 4ths, including their nearly identical instrumental melodic lines in terms of pitch, shape, and rhythm.
Grand Hustle, Atlantic Records, and Warner Bros. Entertainment are also named as defendants. The rapper is seeking for unspecified damages, including disgorgement of profits derived from What You Know.
